Dufferin Agriculture Society Secretary, Jodi Winkler says, their 140th summer fair in 2019 was just the beginning of what's to come.

"The fair over the last three years has really grown in size and the structure has changed a little bit. A big one this year was the complete closure of King's Park Road through the fairground so it really provided a safe atmosphere."

She says they were then able to have two different entrances where emergency services could enter the grounds if needed.

For the future, they're looking to add more signs and hoping to host the Manitoba Provincial Percheron Show for the next three years.

"We have a beautiful park area. Our pool and our golf course, and campground [are] great. Now we have the Cardinals that play at the diamonds down there, so all of those things, it's kind of making it a bit of a hub and that's what we need.

As well, "our miniature horse show, we added a 3D barrel racing on the Thursday night which was very well received," says Winkler.

In the past few years, they've been able to steadily grow the Truck Pull for Mental Health which raises funds for local mental health initiatives and resources.

She says, "I think we can only get bigger from here. We have a really good board and they're working on a plan to grow our fair and better utilize our Ag Society grounds for more than just the three-day event."

Although these events will not be as large as the fair, they will help draw people to an area with many attractions. Some of these include the Dufferin Historical Museum, King's Park pool and splash pad, and the gorgeous golf course in the heart of the town.

"The Carman Farmer's Market is looking to relocate to the fairgrounds . . . so that's an exciting thing for us. Hopefully, they can grow their market too because we have so much room for them to be there."

This would also be a great opportunity for visitors staying in the campground who may not know about the weekly market.

Winkler adds, "2019 was very successful on both fronts and we can only look forward to better things in 2020."
