The province's edible bean crop is progressing well, but is showing signs of heat stress.

Dennis Lange is an agronomist with Parent Seed Farms in St. Joseph.

He says the province's edible bean crop is in good shape with pintos in the southern growing areas at the early flowering to 30 percent flower stage.

Meanwhile, light red kidneys already have two to three inch pods.

In the more northerly growing areas bacterial blight has been reported in several fields in the Portage region.

Lange feels the disease is showing as a result of hail damage that occured recently.
