Parent Seed Farm's agronomist Dennis Lange says quality has been quite good, with smaller seed size still an issue in some varieties.

He stresses, contrary to popular belief, the best way to limit damage to dry seed is not by combining in the evening or early morning hours, but rather during the heat of the day.

Lange notes by harvesting when its hot the combine doesn't have to work as hard to crack open the pods, whereas if the pods are moist it has to thrash harder possibly leading to more seedcoat damage.

Meanwhile, Lange adds prices haven't moved much lately with navies, pintos, and blacks still at 19 cents per pound.
