It's a book designed to teach younger generation Mennonites of their ancestors past.

'Hard Passage' is written by former civil servant Arthur Kroeger.

He says the book focuses on the social and economic hardships Mennonites faced in Russia and Canada, and he has illustrated that by using his family's past.

Kroeger says he travelled to Russia and the Ukraine to his parents home town and saw the school they attended and factory were his Dad worked.

He says there is a certain psychological significance to seeing his parents actual past.

Kroeger adds his goal behind the book was to showcase the effects the hardships had on an individual family.
