Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish a house fire that broke out in an apartment on Park St. in Winkler Thursday afternoon.

"When we arrived there was quite a bit of smoke coming out," Winkler Fire Chief Richard Paetzold says.

Firefighters were able to enter the structure and perform a quick knock-down, suppressing the main body of the fire.

"It wasn't a very long call because of the quick knock-down and we didn't have to do much overhaul," Paetzold says, adding they were finished in approximately one hour.

He explains the fire started on the stove and spread to the cupboards, wall and ceiling. While most of the fire damage was contained to the kitchen, smoke damage was found throughout the dwelling.

No injuries to either occupants for firefighters were reported.
