There are 2 forest fires are burning in the eastern region in Manitoba, and the Fire Program Manager says the fire restrictions remain in place.

Meantime, Tom Mirus is pleased with how well the public is responding to the travel restrictions.

He says most people understand the dangers and are quite willing to do their part in staying safe.

However, some of the younger people on A.T.V.'s and dirt bikes are ignoring the signs and traveling where they shouldn't.

Mirus says they will lay charges if people don't comply with restrictions.

Fines can range anywhere from $400 to $10,000.

He reminds of a situation back in 1983 where there was a sudden outbreak of fires and people on trails and back roads had to be evacuated by helicopter and different canoe routes.
