Shannon Martin has confirmed he will not seek re-election in October's provincial vote.

Martin has served in the Manitoba Legislature for 10 years, first as the MLA for Morris and currently as MLA for McPhillips.

“One should never say goodbye without first saying thank you. To the wonderful residents and businesses of Morris and McPhillips, I express my sincere gratitude and thanks. It has been the honour of a lifetime to represent you in the Manitoba Legislature," said Martin in a statement issued Thursday. "I have always done my very best to advocate for pragmatic government decision making focused on finding real solutions for real problems. I remain committed to open and consistent dialogue with community members to ensure your voice is reflected in provincial government policies and priorities ahead of the upcoming election.

“The past few years of challenge have proven that Manitoba truly is the home of opportunity. An inclusive and welcoming community, strong in entrepreneurial spirit and unmatched in our citizen’s willingness to give both of their time and their resources to help those around them. I am proud to call Manitoba home and I look forward to exploring new opportunities to serve the people of this province outside of political life.

“I wish my PC Party colleagues the very best as they continue working to build a better Manitoba for today and tomorrow. I extend a very special thank you to my family and those that stood by me throughout this political journey. I look forward to spending more time with them as I begin my next chapter.”
