A Gateway Resources participant received a new bike thanks to the generosity of local resident Gerald Stander and community partners.

For Stander, he's been blessed many times over by the community and was looking for a way to give back.

"Once I came to Winkler, what an awesome place... I've got goosebumps just thinking about how many people give here," he says. "While I'm still alive and God has given me hands I want to make a difference for Him."

Stander refurbishes bicycles and was looking for a way to support Gateway Resources participants, "It's just a pleasure to help them."

On Wednesday, Stander presented his latest refurbished bike to local Gateway participant, Cornie, at his home in Winkler.

"What a better way of using my capabilities, fixing bikes," he says.

He also thanked community members for donating the original bike, as well as Country Cycle in Winkler for donating the parts and tires for the tricycle.

Along with the recent donation, Stander has a special project in collaboration with the Winkler Harvest Festival Parade. He hopes to participate with approximately 20 others riding his recently restored vintage bikes from the early 1900s. The parade ride will also act as a fundraiser; anyone who would like to ride one of the vintage bikes in the event is asked to provide a donation for Gateway Resources and be able to complete the parade route on one of the vintage bicycles.
