A University of Manitoba masters student is conducting a survey on grower attitudes towards genetically modified canola.

Andrew Lindsay is specifically looking at herbicide tolerant varieties.

He's gathering information through in person interviews with farmers, and has spoken with more than a dozen growers in the R.M.'s of Macdonald and Rhineland.

It's still early in the process, but lindsay notes some predominant themes are already developing.

Those include a majority of producers have adopted g-m canola varieties and believe there are benefits to growing them, but there are also downfalls in regards to the management of herbicide tolerant volunteers.

Once the consulations are complete he'll be using the information for his masters thesis, and several papers to be authored at a later date.
