Students at W.C. Miller Collegiate are pondering their options for the future following the school's annual Post-Secondary Day/Local Career Showcase event on Tuesday.

Presentations were made by various post-secondary institutions and trades programming, as well as local career options like Golden West and Canada Border Services Agency.

Grade 11 student Parker Schmidt went into the day hoping to expand his knowledge of theatre and film opportunities.

"I'm thinking of going to the University of Winnipeg, hoping that their department would be a good fit for me. It's something I've always wanted to do," he said, noting events like the showcase help people understand more about what they want to do.

"Maybe they didn't know exactly everything," noted Schmidt. "Like the border patrol people, I didn't even know that was something I wanted to do, and they were very convincing," he added with a chuckle. "They really made me think that might be something I want to do."

"Today has obviously changed some things," said Schmidt. "It's kind of one of those things where you've got to figure out what you want to do and you have to think about it, but there's definitely a few things that I want to do - university being one of them."

As for Grade 11 students Rylan Millette, he was hoping to expand his knowledge on the opportunities around psychology, a career he hopes to pursue after high school.

"I found out that there's lot of great secondary schools for me," he said, adding he's excited to learn more.

Millette says he will be reviewing all of the options for his future that were presented to him at the showcase.

"Before today, I didn't really know what options I had until now. Everyone was really easy to talk to and I could figure out what I wanted to do very easily. They were all reassuring and nice people," he noted.
