Morden's Furniture Store, also known as MDC, is a small, family-owned furniture store where you'll be treated the same way the owners would want to be treated when considering furniture, mattress, or appliance needs.

MDC moved to a new location, 131 7th Street, across from the Kenmore Theatre, and has been operating in the space since November 2021. Owner, Annie Giesbrecht says, now that they are settled in, it's time for a grand opening which is happening Saturday, June 4th.

It has been quite the journey, both literally and figuratively, for MDC.

"We originally sold right out of our garage at home, and realized there was a much bigger need for new, but still affordable, furniture in our community," explains Giesbrecht. "We then moved to a small 300 square foot space at 410 North Railway in Morden, in order to have a small store front. We quickly outgrew that space within three months, and moved to 315 North Railway in February 2016. We were at that location until November 2021 when we made the decision to move to our current location on 7th Street in Morden."

Giesbrecht notes, the community support MDC has received over the past seven years, has been incredible.

"There are many days we go home at the end of the day, and reflect on the people we've met," she says. "Meeting new people is a big part of what we do. We are not just here to sell you something. We genuinely care about what you need, and will do our best to provide it for you. For the most part, people just want to be heard. We do not believe in pressure sales and never have. We want every customer that walks through our doors to know we will do our best to find them exactly what they need, and always at a price they can afford."

The move to the new location at 131 7th Street has been a very positive experience for them.

"The support we received from our community was incredible, and a reminder why we've always loved this community," Giesbrecht explains. "Born and raised here in Morden, it is with great pride I say that. The customers who have walked through our doors to simply give us their well wishes and support has been amazing."

Shopping local and supporting hometown businesses is a big part of living in the Pembina Valley, something Giesbrecht reflected on.

"Every small business, including MDC, is here because of the support of their community and surrounding areas," she notes. "With the pandemic, more and more people realized the ease and comfort of shopping from home, so we are constantly trying to adapt to the new ways of making things easier for our customers. With the speed of the ever-changing economy, it often feels like a race. The support we've received from our community is the only reason we're still here today."

Giesbrecht is excited to share the Grand Opening with past, present and future customers, noting the event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4th.

"We will be serving a free hot dog lunch, and a few free door prizes you can enter to win, with no purchase necessary," she says. "In celebration of our Grand Opening, we will be offering savings store wide throughout the month of June."
