A man from Headingley will face Mischief charges in court later this summer, following a recent standoff with RCMP in Elm Creek.

Around 5:30 Friday afternoon, officers with the Pembina Valley detachment responded to a complaint of an unwanted person inside a property on Main Street. At the scene, the landlord explained the suspect had barricaded himself in the upstairs bedroom and was believed to be intoxicated, and possibly armed.

Unable to confirm if he had a weapon, police made contact with the suspect through a second storey window, but say he made indirect threats to harm any officers who came near.

After several hours of negotiations, the 41-year-old man was arrested without incident and taken into custody. He was released the following morning with an August court date.

RCMP say no injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
