Just a reminder...wrapping paper is not recyclable.

Pete Thiessen is manager of recycling at Gateway Resources in Winkler.

He says this is the busiest time of the year for them and separating gift wrapping paper from the real recyclables takes a lot of time.

He says the tape on the wrapping paper often sticks together in one big ball making it difficult for the people separating it.

Thiessen says another problem they have is plastics coming through that are not supposed to.

Two types that are not recyclable are #3 which is containers that have held doughnuts and muffins as well as #6 which is used for cassette tapes, Cd's and DVD cases.

Unfortunately, packaging does not always say whether it is recyclable or not, so it is a good idea to think twice before throwing it in your bin.
