The collapse of a highway overpass in Quebec is putting the condition of Canada's infrastructure under the microscope.

And the reeve for the R.M. of Franklin hopes the tragic event prompts governments to start properly funding infrastructure.

Archie Hunter says his municipality is a prime example of infrastructure neglect.

The municipality has one bridge along P.R. 200 that is closed,  and another across the Red River that has severe restrictions.

He says the bridge along P.R. 200 was close to collapsing.

Hunter says he'd like to see a return of Manitoba's Bridge Program that was eliminated a few years ago.

He says the program allowed municipalities and the province to cost share on the construction of new bridges.
