Huge crowds descended on the new Petro-Can in Winkler on Saturday with gas prices dropping as low as 69.9 cents per litre as part of their grand opening celebrations. The discounted price at the pump was such a large draw it caused traffic delays on Highway 14.

Police eventually set up a barricade at the entrace to divert traffic to the South side of the store and side streets to alleviate the build-up of customers on the highway.

"We had to start doing some traffic control," Kevin Braun says, adding they were pleasantly surprised by the popularity.

He notes they had to bring in another tanker to keep up with the demand throughout the day. Looking ahead Braun says the have more plans for the development at the corner of PTH 14 and Gemstone Drive, across from 15th Street, including adding a restaurant beside the gas-bar.
