A 59-year-old man from Rosengart, a village located south of Winkler near the Canada/U.S. Border, has died following a hunting incident south of Elma, in eastern Manitoba.

Around 8 p.m. Tuesday, RCMP were called to a report of an adult man suffering from a gun shot wound in a wooded area off of Silver Bridge Road. Upon arrival, officers were advised that the man was pronounced deceased.

According to an RCMP investigation, the victim was shot by a 45-year-old man who was hunting in the area. Police say the two were not known to each other and were not hunting together.

The next day, RCMP charged the 45-year-old, a German citizen, with manslaughter. He was remanded into custody with a court appearance scheduled for Thursday in Winnipeg.

Lac du Bonnet RCMP, along with assistance from Major Crime Services, RCMP Forensic Identification Services and Manitoba Conservation Officer Service continue to investigate.
