A record summer peak for electricity use was reached by Manitoba Hydro.

Spokesperson Jim Peters explains the year peak was set in January when more heating and lightning needs, contribute to an increase in energy use.

He says summer has it's own contributing factors, including air conditioner use and load growth.

Peters explains load growth is the increase in homes, businesses, and industry.

He adds hydro has no concern with the increase as they have the means to handle it.
