The Province's enhanced i.d. cards seem to be quite popular among residents living in rural Southern Manitoba.

Brian Smiley with Manitoba Public Insurance says the greatest demand for the card is coming from residents living in the southern areas of the province.

There are quite a few residents in the Steinbach, Winkler, and Morden areas who have applied for the card, which is not surprising.

Smiley notes these people are probably travelling more frequently to the United States than someone from Dauphin.

About 7,500 Manitobans have applied for the card, and about 6,500 have been issued so far.

About 30% of applicants are rural, about 50% from Winnipeg, and about 20% are residents of Brandon.
