It's a cruel April Fool's joke courtesy of Old Man Winter.

A low pressure system made its way across Manitoba over the weekend and the cold air is now trailing behind, leaving us with below normal temperatures.

Environment Canada's Dale Marciski explains it's only a matter of time before we'll start to see warmer temperatures.

He suspects we'll start to see the mercury climb come mid April.

Normally at this time of year we're seeing highs of +5 or +6, Marciski says if it clears overnight we could see lows of -18 or -19 throughout the week.

Looking on the bright side, Marciski says we've escaped a winter storm that's travelling through the Dakota's and Minnesota.

Our neighbours to the south can expect a considerable amount of snow.

If you're travelling south, Marciski advises you to take caution.
