With the recent unseasonably warm weather we have been having for this time of year, the bird migration has been slightly delayed.  Spokesperson for Oak Hammock Marsh Jaques Bourgeois says it's a little different this year as far as geese numbers.  He says they were expecting the peak to have already come.  As of their last count, the weekly numbers were about 50 to 60 thousand geese and usually around this time it should be about 200 to 300 thousand geese.

Bourgeois explains that as it gets colder, birds have a hormonal switch that turns on and makes them become agitated and almost restless and this is what pushes the migration.  Therefore as it gets colder we can expect more to see more geese.
