Despite the high price of gas, members of the Legends Car Club hit the road in May to raise funds for South Central Cancer Resource (SCCR).

The Club's annual Run for Cancer was a two-part event this year.

On May 21st, Club members braved poor weather to gather in Winkler for a hot dog sale that drew droves of supporters.

A cruise on May 28th took drivers to Winkler, Carman, Miami, Morden Nurseries and then back to Altona for a BBQ wind-up.

Donations and pledges from both events amounted to roughly $24,000. Since 2011, Legends has raised over $182,000 for Cancer Resource.

SCCR Project Coordinator Erika Friesen says the car club has done amazing work through it's annual fundraiser, with 100 per cent of funds raised going towards the non-profit.

The Morden-based organization supports clients and families within the South Central region throughout their battle with cancer. Supports offered includes financial assistance, transportation, accommodation, wigs/head coverings, a lymphedema program, skin screening clinics,  plus health and wellness programs.

SCCR depends entirely on community donations to operate, said Friesen, a large part of it coming from the Car Club.
