The 52nd annual Manitoba Stampede and Exhibition is well underway in Morris. This is day two at Manitoba's only professional rodeo which will feature grandstand events like the pony chuckwagon & chariot races, bareback, saddlebronc, and ladies barrel racing.

While the Stampede is mainly focused on rodeo events, it also has a variety of shows, rides and attractions that will be of interest to families with children. In fact a number of new ideas have been introduced in an effort to draw more families this year.

"We changed the layout of the midway and brought in some extra rides this year," said Pat Schmidke, president of the Valley Agricultural Society. "We also created something called the Activity Ranch and it's all geared toward kids and agriculture where they can get a feel for where their food is coming from."

This is Schmidke's first year as president of the Valley Ag Society, the organization that head up and plans the Stampede. He says, so far, it's been a blast.

"There are lots of really good people around me, so it's not even difficult. There has been a tremendous amount of work that's done on the grounds this year, but again, there are some really good people who work diligently to make it what it is, Manitoba's only pro rodeo."

This year's Stampede wraps up on Sunday afternoon.
