Nancy Howatt from the Manitou area really likes what the Canadian Foodgrains Bank does around the world, and she wants to help them out by donating some money.

That money will come from the sale of one of her steers on Monday. She’s taking 50 cattle to be sold at the Killarney Auction Mart. “I went on a learning tour to Haiti last December through the foodgrains and we got to see some of their projects and it inspired me to be an advocate and to help where I can.”

Howatt says she is working with the owner of the auction yard Allan Munroe and hopes the sale brings in lots of money for the Canadian Foodgrains Bank.

“I’m going to let Allan pick the steer out of my group of calves. What he chooses will go up for auction and if people wish they can also make a tax deductible donation to the foodgrains bank as well. We will accept donations for sure if people wish to donate.”

Howatt is working with the Grow Hope project through the Anglican Church and her efforts helped to generate about $14,000 last year and she’s hoping to do even better this year.

“Just because there are oceans in the world between us and other countries we are all brothers and sisters in this beautiful place so it’s okay to give where needed” said Howatt.

Her calf will come up for auction around 1:00 p.m. Monday afternoon at the Killarney Auction Mart.
