Moose Jaw Warriors defenseman Denton Mateychuk of Dominion City, Winnipeg Ice forward Conor Geekie of Strathclair and Swift Current Broncos defenseman Owen Pickering of St. Adolphe were all selected in the first round of the 2022 NHL Draft Thursday night in Montreal. 

Geekie was chosen 11th overall to the Arizona Coyotes, Mateychuk was selected 12th by the Columbus Blue Jackets and Pickering went 21st to the Pittsburgh Penguins. 

All three will attend Hockey Canada's National Junior Team summer camp later this month at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.

Ice forward Matthew Savoie of St. Albert, Alberta was chosen ninth overall by the Buffalo Sabres. 

The Winnipeg Jets selected forward Rutger McGroarty from the USA Hockey National Team Development Program Under-18 team with the 14th pick and then took forward Brad Lambert of Finland. 

The Montreal Canadiens chose forward Juraj Slafkovsky with the first overall pick.

Rounds two through seven will take place today.
