The Miami Fair and Rodeo in Manitoba was an eagerly anticipated annual event that brings together people from all walks of life to enjoy a fun-filled day of activities.

On Saturday the festivities kick off was a heartfelt cowboy prayer, setting the tone for the event, and with a moment of silence honoured those involved in the recent accident on Highway One.

"This weekend we really hope the weather stays good, and that everyone stays healthy and happy... that's all you can ask for during a rodeo," said Dyck Sobey, one of the board directors of Heartland Rodeo.

For those with an appreciation for the livestock that plays a central role in their lives, the cattle show is a must-see. Ranchers proudly showcase their prized animals, demonstrating their expertise in breeding. Spectators are treated to an up-close look at these magnificent creatures, marvelling at their strength.

"The fair and rodeo has been really, really nicely supported. Our grandparents did this, our parents and we were young kids and showed cattle and carried it on and now we have the next generation and that's what keeps the fair rodeo going. It's a tradition of Miami. Hopefully, we'll keep it going for years to come," said Jan Moody, who is treasurer of the board of the Miami agricultural society.

The Miami Fair and Rodeo is a family-friendly event, and children are not forgotten in the lineup of attractions. The Ricklyn Farms Petting Zoo allows kids to interact with friendly farm animals, fostering a sense of connection and understanding of the natural world. Bounce castles provide endless fun as kids bounced and jumped to their heart's content, and face painting transformed their little faces into works of art. The dedicated kids' area hosts a variety of activities, assuring that children were entertained throughout the day.

The fair and rodeo offer a wide range of attractions and activities for visitors of all ages.

"It's actually my daughter's first rodeo ever. I'm feeling pretty good so far, I guess the nerves are there. I'm just looking forward to meeting new people and having a great Rodeo," said Kyla Lepp. Kamryn, her daughter, participated in the Junior Barrel Racing event.

The Miami Fair and Rodeo is more than just a gathering; it is a celebration of community, tradition, and the Western way of life. From the opening cowboy prayer to the vibrant activities that filled the day, this event offered a memorable experience for everyone. Whether it's witnessing the incredible skills of cattle, admiring the majestic horses, or enjoying the lively atmosphere, the fair and rodeo is an event that captures the spirit of the West and brings people together in a truly special way.
