334 Canadian physicians returned from other countries to practice in Canada this year.

That from the Canadian Institute for Health Information.

The stats show that for the second straight year the number of Canadian physicians returning to Canada is higher than the number moving out of the country.

Central Regional Health Authority Chief of Staff Dr. Denis Fortier says the same is happening in the Central RHA, however it's not as significant, noting there seems to be a shortage of around 10 physicians every year.

Fortier believes the old adage "the grass is always greener on the other side" comes into play in this situation.

He adds physicians who return to Canada and the Central RHA are coming back because of financial reasons and to be with family and friends.
