Southern Health-Sante Sud has confirmed the emergency department at Morris General Hospital will remain closed until further notice. The department was temporarily closed on September 1st following the sudden death of Dr. Anna Kolakowski to insure the most pressing primary care needs were met.

According to the health region, this temporary service change will allow it to maintain core services while working with limited physician options until it can stabilize the workforce in order to provide high quality, predictable and sustainable health care services that meet the needs of the community of Morris and surrounding area, now and into the future.

Site leaders and Southern Health-Sante Sud will continue to work in collaboration with the community, physicians and staff, to help achieve that goal.

Meantime, a temporary walk-in clinic is opening at the Morris General Hospital today.

It will operate every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between the hours of 4 pm -7:00 pm on a limited first come, first serve basis. Appointments will be available starting at 4:00 pm during walk-in clinic hours only, and no advance bookings will be taken. Once appointments are filled, the clinic will be required to close intake for the day.

The same-day clinic, however, will continue to offer limited appointments Monday to Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm (excluding Statutory holidays) to address non life-threatening health concerns. Please call your health care provider to schedule.

Outpatient services such as lab work, minor procedures including IV treatments and wound care currently provided through the Emergency Department will continue to be scheduled as required.
