The following update was submitted by the Municipality of Rhineland Thursday afternoon

Drainage

- This morning Rhineland Staff observed that water level in many creeks and ditches continue to drop. Water levels in provincial drains remain high.

- The Pembina River rose overnight and continues to be at major flood stage at Neche North Dakota. Rhineland crews and Manitoba Infrastructure continue to monitor the situation along the international border

- The Gretna Ring Dike continues to be partially closed by Manitoba Infrastructure due to high water. At last report, the Port of Entry at Gretna is still open.

- Crews are working to repair culvert washouts at a variety of locations

Roads 

Road damage in the Municipality appears to be significant. 

- Road damage appears to be significant and there are still several low level crossings along the Buffalo Creek that are experiencing water over the road 

- Crews continue to work at trying to make damaged gravel roads passable.

- Municipal roads are soft, please be cautious when travelling within Rhineland

Motorists are urged to use caution when driving on area gravel roads. Public Works Director Craig Smiley explains, a number of culverts are being undermined and are at risk of caving in. 

Sand bags

- A limited number of pre-made sand bags are still available for pickup at the 227 10 Ave NW in Altona (Altona Curling Club parking)

- The self serve sand bag site continues to be available in Plum Coulee at 215 Railway Ave

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement advising that there is another Colorado low that will impact the Municipality of Rhineland this weekend. The Virtual Municipal Emergency Operations Center continues to be open at least until Monday May 2nd. Stay tuned to local media for any new alerts or warnings.
