Support continues to roll in for upgrades happening at The Manor, a Gardens on Tenth Facility in Altona. The Municipality of Rhineland is the latest to come forward with a $50,000 donation to the effort.

"We thought it was a worthwhile project," said Reeve Don Wiebe. "About two weeks ago, I was here for breakfast and, sitting around the table there was about ten people, at least nine of them had a connection to the Municipality. So, I think we have to look at this from a wider perspective, as a community, and we're part of that. And so, I think it's fitting for us to support ventures like this."

To date, six suites have been made fully accessible. Wiebe got a firsthand look at the improvements at a cheque presentation on Friday.

"I think they're great! I think it lends itself to flexibility," he said. "I looked at the care people need and, looking at the renovations to the washrooms, that's fantastic! It's a really good step in terms of giving people a place where they can take care of their needs with dignity."

Not only is the project about aging in place with dignity, but also about offering the residents a sense of community, noted John Falk, chair of the Gardens on Tenth board of directors.

"They're not at home along anymore. They are here together with a lot of other people, a lot of friends and even people that they've known through their lives. It just makes it that much more welcoming for them," he said.

Once renovations are complete at The Manor, the intent is to expand Gardens' Pathways program into that building. As well, crews will move on and begin upgrading suites in The Units, another apartment complex within the Gardens campus, built in 1965.

So far, $329,800 of the required $500,000 has been raised since the fund-raising campaign launched in September.
