The number of election choices for town council in Emerson could get a little thinner.

Four candidates who work for Canada Customs are essentially being told they'll have to quit their jobs if they win.

The Public Service Commission has indicated they can hold office only if they take a four year unpaid leave of absence.

Mayoral Candidate Terry Kreitz, an employee of Canada Customs, says the Public Service Commission feels a public service employee could be in a conflict of interest if he holds a public office.

He says however, there are strict guidelines for public employees who hold office.

The four candidates intend to fight the ruling in an effort to get the Public Service Commission to change its mind.
