The province today announced a new fine for those failing to comply with COVID-19 regulations.

Chief Provincial Public Health Officer Dr. Brent Roussin says a specific fine of $298 will be put in place for not wearing a mask in indoor public places, which is required under current public health orders. Enforcement officials can issue this fine.

"It's only those places where you are mandated under the public health order, so those are indoor public places," says Dr. Roussin. "Outdoor, we don't have a mandate to wear masks."

Dr. Roussin says exemptions listed in the order still apply and there will be a reasonable expectation that the individual can demonstrate that they require an exemption.

All other fines for individuals related to public health orders remain at $1,296.
