There will be a new feature at the Winkler Aquatic Centre next year.

Construction will begin this fall on a new spray park for the Winkler Aquatic Centre. City council voted earlier this week to move ahead with the project.

Councillor Henry Siemens tells us it will be located within the pool compound in the southeast corner. He says the reasoning behind that decision was twofold; one is the city wanted to add something new to the existing aquatic centre, plus it would allow for the lifeguards working at the pool to also provide supervision of the spray park.

Siemens is also very excited about how the park will be the only one in Manitoba to offer heated water. The city is working with the contractor and Manitoba Health to engineer a way to connect the park into the pool system, and Siemens says conceptually things are looking good. He adds, by hooking the spray park into the pool system, it will allow them to recycle water rather than send it all down the drain.
