The Winkler Fire Department responded to a barn fire in Chortitz Friday afternoon.

The call came in around 4:18 p.m., and Chief Richard Paetzold says when crews arrived on scene, the structure was heavily involved.

“After confirming the barn was clear of cattle, and moving them away from the immediate vicinity, the FD proceeded to work on the fire concentrating on protecting adjacent property,” explained Paetzold.

Two firefighters sustained minor injuries. No animals were injured.

The cause remains under investigation, and no damage estimate is available at this time.
