Manitoba Public Insurance has updated its 'most at risk' list to include several newer model vehicles.

Spokesman Brian Smiley says although most newer vehicles have factory installed immobilizers, thieves are still able to steal them.

He says this is because most factory installed units use the European two pronged system as opposed to the Canadian three pronged.

Smiley says this shortfall has allowed for thieves to by pass the immobilizer system and steal the vehicle.

He notes because a lot of vehicles have already been theft proofed thieves are turning their attention to vehicles with a smaller security system.

Smiley adds the after market immobilizer installations that M.P.I. offers meet the Canadian theft deterrent standards and are the only units where you can receive a discount on insurance.

The 'most at risk' list has also been updated to include recent theft stats from 2003-2006.
