Over $50,000 was raised this past Sunday at the Adult & Teen Challenge Demolition Derby held in Morris at the Manitoba Stampede & Exhibition Grounds.

Robby Ahuja is Chief Development Officer for Adult & Teen Challenge of Central Canada.

"What a phenomenal event it was, we were blown away by the support!," he exclaimed. "The crowd stands were full with lots of families that were engaged and having a good time, singing and celebrating in between heats. We were able to have four heats of five vehicles that were banging each other up and causing lots of joy and excitement in the crowd."

Ahuja says they had 20 sponsored vehicles participate in the 9th annual derby, which returned this year after a two-year hiatus.

"It's really cool how it all ties together. These were all Dodge Caravans that were donated through our vehicle donation program...The mini-vans were all set aside. We had our students that are going through our discipleship program, our core program, fix them up, work on them, get them ready to be ready for the demolition derby. It was a full use of the vehicles and the event."

All of the funds raised from the derby go to support programming administered through Adult & Teen Challenge.

"Anywhere from somebody just calling a family or an individual that's calling just for support or initial conversation, all the way to our support groups that we have," explained Ahuja. "As well as our long term homes that we have for men and women throughout Manitoba."
