a special hello to our friends at Mennonite Collegiate Institute (MCI) who earlier this month launched a series of online programs called Owen and Jewel at 7. The 15 minute long episodes on MCI’s YouTube page are hosted by the namesakes of the program, both Grade 12 students, and highlight all facets of the school in Gretna including student and staff stories, alumni, programming and more. They debut Monday nights at 7 p.m.

This is all under the umbrella of the school's Spring Fundraising Series, which includes MCI's first online auction, which is also part of the "webisodes".

Morning Show Co-Host Chris Sumner chatted with MCI Director of Student Life and Recruitment about how the concept came to be.

Chris also spoke with hosts Owen Friesen and Jewel Johnson-Audu, asking each how they became part of the project.

You can get more details at MCI's website, including about the online auction. The videos are posted to the school's YouTube page. Click here to check them out!

Meanwhile, MCI also announced this week they are excited to have Access Credit Union returning as the title sponsor of this year's fundraising golf tournament, the MCI Golf Classic. The 7th annual golf tournament will be held June 12-20 at the Minnewasta Golf and Country Club in Morden. Last year’s tournament proceeded in spite of the pandemic, involved 120 golfers and raised nearly $25,000. COVID-19 restrictions required creative adaptations by organizers. The event was held over nine days and individual meals were provided rather than a traditional banquet. Each golfer received a unique welcome packet featuring products by local businesses.
