Midland MLA Blaine Pedersen has returned to the role of Chair of the Manitoba PC Caucus following Riding Mountain MLA Greg Nesbitt's appointment to Cabinet.

“I am honoured to start this new role and continue working hard for Manitobans on behalf of our entire PC Caucus,” said Pedersen in a statement “I know that my colleagues and I are united in our goal to strengthen health care, make life more affordable and bolster the economy.”

Pedersen has previously served in cabinet in the portfolios of Minister of Infrastructure, Minister of Growth, Investment and Trade and Minister of Agriculture and Resource Development.

"It's always an honour when the Premier asks you to do a job," added Pedersen.

As Chair of the caucus, Pedersen will oversee the daily meetings that take place when the Legislature is in session. That includes setting the agenda which involves working with the Premier to ensure she is able to bring forward any new business on her desk, including Minister reports and allowing time for any other caucus members to bring forward any additional items, all while running an efficient meeting.

"You want to make sure that everybody has the ability to express their thoughts on any particular issue," explained Pedersen. "Caucus meetings are always in-camera, it's for caucus only and not for public consumption, so the conversation can run all gammits."

Currently, the caucus holds meetings on a monthly basis as the Legislature is not in session, and Pedersen says the Party is busy preparing for the fall session and next year's provincial election.
