Justice Minister Vic Toews believes police chiefs deserve more of a say in the development of policy and legislation.

Our Member of Parliament met with the chiefs at their conference in St. John's, Newfoundland earlier this week.

They told him they are often not consulted on changes in justice legislation.

Police chiefs also want a more formal process of sharing their resolutions with Toews, and he has promised to do just that.

Toews says some of their concerns are things like cumbersome applications for wiretaps and the amount of time officers are required to spend in court at preliminary hearings.
