The past year has been filled with many challenges for Yevgeniya Tatarenko as war continued to rage in her home country of Ukraine. However, she has also witnessed some incredible moments from her current home in Morden.

Most recently, she was alerted to a recent social media post made by a volunteer group in Ukraine.

"They posted pictures from Bakhmut, and the defender found a destroyed facility or whatever it was, and there were two postcards actually signed by kids from Morden!" she explained. "A little someone just wanted to help Ukraine from here in Morden, from a little city in southern Manitoba. You can make history. You can make a difference."

One of the cards, written in Ukrainian, says 'Hello from Canada! The world is with you! Stay strong! Glory to Ukraine! Morden, Manitoba.' The second postcard, in child's handwriting says 'NEVER GIVE UP!'

Turns out, these were just two of the postcards that were included in each of the hundreds of tactical and medical bags sent to defenders and emergency personnel in Ukraine, from Morden. This, noted Tatarenko, is proof that the bags she helped coordinate made it to the front lines of the war.

"We don't know what happens to those defenders or paramedics, but those postcards were found," she said.

Tatarenko's next task will be to find the people who wrote the cards.

"One I do remember, it was signed at 500 Stephen St. when we were collecting items and raising money. But another one was definitely from the schools when we had this project. We just sent them empty postcards and we asked different classes to sign those. That was from Maple Leaf School"

"I think for those people, for those kids, knowing they made history, it's a big deal so I really want to find those kids," she added.
