Members of the Pembina Valley RCMP continue to deal with stolen vehicle reports.

The latest incidents were recorded January 15, 2020 when members responded to a complaint out of Pilot Mound. While investigating the initial theft report, officers learned that a second vehicle stolen from Saskatchewan was left abandoned on a rural road in the Municipality of Louise.

The stolen vehicle from Pilot Mound has since been located.

Investigation continues into the second report with help from the RCMP Forensic Identification Section and members of multiple RCMP Detachments within Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Pembina Valley RCMP (Carman, Morden, or Manitou offices) or call Manitoba Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, submit a secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.

The public is reminded to remain vigilant by locking up all homes, out-buildings and vehicles, as well as report any suspicious activity to police.

Meantime, another phone scam appears to be circulating throughout the region. Multiple complaints of these latest fraudulent calls have flowed into Pembina Valley RCMP offices over the past week.

The latest edition has culprits posing as agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and/or Canada Border Services Agency.

According to RCMP, the scammer claims to be a U.S. or Canadian border agent notifying the person on the other end of line that their social insurance number has been compromised, and then references a fake case number. The caller then asks for that SIN number, along with the person's full name, date of birth, home and mailing addresses.

RCMP urge the public to remain vigilant and to not give out any personal information, but rather hang up and report the phone calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
