Tuesday night was a night to remember for Ray Neufeld and his sister Sara, who were tapped to drop the puck for Black History Night at the Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg. Daemon Parent chatted with Ray about growing up in Winkler and how welcomed him and his family felt from the community.

"Yeah, I mean, Winkler, there weren't a lot of black kids or BIPOC colored kids. I mean, there was a Doctor Khan and his family. I think we grew up with the Khan family. They lived on our street as well at Crystal Crescent, growing up so but they were, to my knowledge, they were the only other family with dark skin. So yeah, it was different. We never looked at it differently. I mean, people today talk about it a lot, but really, we were just one of the community. I mean, everyone always made us feel welcome. And, I never really had a lot of issues and challenges and respect to it so."

Ray also delved into the where the game of hockey is going with respect to diversity and how it can affect kids.

"I feel blessed that I was able to play. I'm thankful that the game is moving in this direction and trying to bring inclusion into the forefront and make hockey a positive experience for all those that want to play. And that's really what it's about. It's just getting kids, young people involved and learning respect and treating people how you would want to be treated."
