Manitoba Hydro is trying to reduce the number of electrical outages caused by trees contacting power lines. Jim Peters says they have launched a website called "Right Tree - Right Place".

It provides advice on what type of trees are appropriate for planting near hydro lines. He says it includes all kinds of information about trees and why certain types are better near overhead power lines.

Peters adds, Manitoba Hydro wants to hear from you if you have trees touching power lines. He says they will schedule a crew to come out and do the necessary pruning.

Peters explains this is all about safety for the public and their employees as well as improving the reliability of electricity service.
There were a number of electrical outages here in southeastern manitoba last week that were caused by trees hitting power lines during stormy weather.
