Altona police have laid several charges after an early morning traffic stop Thursday south of Plum Coulee.

Officers were on patrol heading north on Highway 306 when a southbound vehicle passed by without a front license plate. They made a U-turn and began heading south behind the car when it immediately turned down a dirt road in what officers interpreted as evasive action. Police continued to follow the car down the rural road when it suddenly came to a stop in front of them, before a traffic stop could be initiated.

When officers approached the vehicle, the 31 year old male driver offered up a false name but advised police that the vehicle was unregistered and that he did not have a valid drivers licence. A 30 year old female passenger indicated that she owned the vehicle and also did not posses a valid licence.

Both were brought back to the Altona Police Station where officers learned the man's real name, and that he had a warrant out for his arrest out of Winnipeg.

Along with Provincial charges under the Highway Traffic Act, the driver was also charged Criminally with:
Failure to Comply with Probation
Failure to Comply with his Curfew
Failure to Keep the Peace and be of Good Behaviour and
Public Mischief (providing a false name to police).

He was released on a Promise to Appear in Court.

The woman was issued a ticket for permitting an unregistered vehicle to be driven.
