Producers in our area are making good headway on their seeding operations this spring.

Winkler-area producer Jack Froese says they've finished planting corn, soybeans and canola on their farm and are preparing to plant dry beans.

Froese added some of their fields received about four-tenths of an inch of rain on the weekend, but could use a little more to help move thing along.

Meantime, he noted soil temperatures have varied a little.

"We put our corn in fairly early, and at the time, the two inch level was about 8 to 10 degrees. Since then it's actually cooled off a bit. Most of the crops have germinated, but have been very slow emerging."

Froese said they hope to have this year's seeding wrapped up somewhere between May 25 and 28.
