Water levels appear to have stablilized on most ditches and creeks in the Municipality of Rhineland, while levels are dropping some. Officials expect the cold temperatures to start the week will slow runoff, allowing creek levels to drop

further.

Meantime, the Municipality reports pumping operations in Gretna, Plum Coulee and Rosenfeld ended this morning, with public works staff monitoring water levels and opening plugged culverts.

As well, a number of roads suffered water damage as a result of the weekend's high water event, and crews are currently mapping the damaged sites.

Officials continue to monitor the Pembina River as it enters the municipality from the United States.

Overall, the Municipality reports about 30 calls came in to its virtual Emergency Operations Centre between Saturday and Monday morning. Calls ranged from inquiries about water levels to water impacting homes.

Municipal officials say they are aware of several basements that had water or sewer backup, and are confident there are other properties that were affected whose owners didn't reach out.

The municipality has set up two sandbagging areas; one at the MEC parking lot in Altona, and a second at the public works shop in Plum Coulee. Since these sand piles are self serve, officials say it is difficult to know exactly how many sand bags have been used so far. Public Works still will be monitoring the sand piles and bags to ensure there is an adequate supply at each location.
