Just after midnight Saturday Winkler Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the village of Hochfeld south of Winkler. The call came in at 12:43 a.m.

Chief Richard Paetzold says when crews arrived, a building used for meat smoking was fully engulfed in flames.

"Crews extinguished the small building and cooled adjacent buildings," he explained. "The fire was too well advanced to save the building."

Paetzold noted the wind direction during the call kept the flames from spreading easily to other buildings on the yard.

Along with the building, all contents inside it, including the meat being smoked, were destroyed.

There were no injuries in the incident, and the cause remains under investigation.
