Andrew Saramaga, Chair of the Manitoba Pulse Growers Association Soybean Committee, says...

After two consecutive poor growing seasons, the province's soybean crop appears to be in good shape.

Andrew Saramaga farms near Hazelridge, and is the Chair of the Manitoba Pulse Growers Association Soybean Committee.

He says the poor performance of soybeans over the last couple of years may have scared off some producers from trying the crop.

Saramaga says that's why it's heartening to see this year's crop in such good condition, adding it may convince more farmers to try it out in the future.

He feels with new shorter season varieties coming onto the market, acres are set to expand even further particularly in the southwest.

He estimates 350,000 acres of soybeans were planted this year.
