Dayna Wahl of Altona will meet Tansy Tober of Fort Garry and Shaela Hayward of Carman will face Morgan Maguet of East St. Paul on the 11 a.m. draw at the 2023 Provincial Junior Curling Championships in Portage. The winners will join Cheyenne Ehnes of Pembina in C event qualifying games this afternoon. Tansy Terrick of the Heather Curling Club defeated Katy Lukowich of the Granite 9-4 in the A event qualifier and advanced to the Page Playoff that begins at 8 p.m. Lukowich will meet Grace Beaudry of St. Vital in the B event qualifier at 11a.m. Zach Norris of the Morris Curling Club is 1-2 and will play his final round robin game against Colton Olafson of Portage. Defending champion Jordon McDonald of Deer Lodge, with Winkler's Reece Hamm throwing third stones, has a 3-0 record and will meet Jonathan Kostna of Pembina.


The Morden Thunder and PCI Trojans were winners in the Zone 4 High School Hockey League Thursday night. Zach Dyck and Owen Vanrobaeys scored nine seconds apart early in the third period as Morden shaded Carman 4-3. Acoyen Fehr and Brooks Merasty also scored for the Thunder. Ryan Orchard, Kolton Worms and Alex Lemky replied for the Cougars. Morden led 2-0 after the first period, The game was tied 2-2 after 40 minutes. Cam Sarna had two goals and three assists and JJ Oke also scored twice as Portage Collegiate downed Garden Valley 6-3. Rowan Peters and Kevin Vince also scored for the Trojans. Haiden Friesen, Justin Hildebrand and Jeffrey Holomay did the goal scoring for the Zodiacs. Tonight the first place Thunder play host to PCI. The second place Trojans are three points back of Morden and have two games in hand on the Thunder. 


Kyle Connor had the lone goal for the Winnipeg Jets in their 4-1 loss to Toronto. Auston Matthews had a pair of goals for the Maple Leafs. The Jets are 0-2 on their five-game road trip with continues Saturday against the Ottawa Senators. Winnipeg goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been selected by the fans to participate in the 2023 NHL All-Star game. Hellebuyck joins Jets defenceman Josh Morrissey at the 2023 NHL All-Star Weekend, which is being hosted by the Florida Panthers at FLA Live Arena on February 3rd & 4th. 


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed Canadian fullback Mike Miller on a one-year contract extension. He was scheduled to become a free agent in February. The Riverview, New Brunswick native returns to the Blue Bombers for a sixth season after joining the team as a free agent in 2017. Miller is one of the greatest special teams players in Canadian Football League history; he is the CFL’s all-time leader in special teams tackles with 226, having taken over top spot in that category during the 2021 season.


The Minnesota Vikings fired defensive coordinator Ed Donatell. The Vikings ranked second worst in yards allowed in the NFL and fourth worst in points allowed during the regular season. The Minnesota defense gave up 431 yards and 31 points to the New York Giants in their wildcard round loss last week.
