Addison Kartusch of St. Charles, Jeri Lafleche of Clear Lake and Veronica van der Meer of Winnipeg are tied for the lead heading into the final round of the Provincial Women's Amateur Golf Championship. All three are 12-over par 156 after 36 holes. Lafleche was three-over par 75 Thursday at Granite Hills near Lac du Bonnet. Kartusch and van der Meer were 77. Charmaine Mackid of Breezy Bend and Rhonda Orr of Southwood are four shots back. Ryan Sholdice of Breezy Bend was two-under par 70 and has the lead heading into the final round of the Provincial Men's Mid-Amateur Championship which is also at Granite Hills. Sholdice is three-over par 147 and is one shot ahead of Drew Jones of Shilo. Tyson Ehnes of the Lorette golf club was 77 Thursday and is in a tie for seventh place at 156.


Baseball Manitoba's Provincial 11U, 13U & 15U A championships are on this weekend. Carman and Morden are at the 11U championship in Stonewall. The Winkler Rangers, Winkler Giants and Carman are at the 13U championship in Winkler. The Winkler Nationals are at the 15U championship in Swan River. The AA championships take place next weekend.


The Pembina Valley Orioles will play a pair of five-inning games againt the St. Boniface Legionaires tonight at Whittier Park. The Orioles, who have an 8-12 record, are coming off an 11-8 victory over the Bisons in Altona on Wednesday. 


The Winnipeg Goldeyes wrapped up their seven-game road trip with a 1-0 victory over the American Association's West Division leading Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks at Newman Outdoor Field. The Goldeyes broke the scoreless tie in the top of the eighth inning when rookie Justin Thompson hit a leadoff triple then came home one batter later on a passed ball. Tasker Strobel entered the game in tthe bottom of the inning in relief of starter Landen Bourassa and recorded the final five outs to pull into a tie for the league lead with his 14th save of the season. Strobel stranded the tying run at third base in the eighth, then benefitted from a potentially game-saving double play started by third baseman Ian Sagdal in the ninth inning before striking out Evan Alexander with runners at first and second to end the ballgame. The Fish begin a three-game weekend series against the Sioux City Explorers tonight at Shaw Park.
