The Winkler Storm lost 3-2 to Richmond Kings Thursday night in Winnipeg. George Siemens and Kris Roberts did the goal scoring for the Storm who have one win and one loss in the Manitoba Major Soccer League's Second Division. Winkler's next game is Sunday night at home against Scorpions FC. 


Kaydence Wiens scored three times and Lisa O'Neill found the back of the net twice as the Morden U17 Eagles shutdown TEECC U16/U17 Welburn 10-0 in the Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association's Recreational Division. Jood Abujazia, Madison Shields, Lindsey Miller, Vanessa Franz and Madison Bell also scored for the Eagles. Janessa Nelson and Gabbie Hildebrand combined for the clean sheet.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes fell 4-3 to the Chicago Dogs in the finale of their three-game series at Blue Cross Park. The Goldeyes held a 2-1 lead in the top of the eighth inning when catcher Nick Dalesandro hit a three-run home run down the right field line to give Chicago a two-run advantage. Shortstop Andy Armstrong pulled Winnipeg within one in the bottom of the ninth with a two-out double to right-centre field that brought catcher Rob Emery in to score. However, Dogs closer Joey Marciano got second baseman Adam Hall to pop out to right field to end the ballgame.


Nick Paul had two goals and an assist as Canada defeated Slovakia 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the 2024 World Men's Hockey Championship in Prague. Dylan Guenther, Jared McCann, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Brandon Tanev also scored for the defending champion Canadians who will face Switzerland in the semifinals on Saturday. Jordan Binnington made 18 saves in net for Canada.


The 2024 Memorial Cup round robin begins tonight in Saginaw, Michigan as the host Sting face the Western Hockey League champion Moose Jaw Warriors. The Ontario Hockey League champion London Knights meet the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League champion Drummondville Voltigeurs on Saturday.
